I am still working on my personal progress Knowledge value. One of the required experiences is to memorize the 13th article of faith and to recite it. I recited it to my sweetheart. Then we were to attend some kind of performance and using the article of faith as a guide, evaluate the performance and write in our journal about the experience. I went to a High School performance of "Legally Blonde". I love the movie. The kids did a great job and the performance was a delight. Some of the singers were so awesome that they may indeed have singing careers ahead of them. Some of the youth from the wards in the area were actors in the play. I enjoyed the performance and laughed and cried. They were really good. Then I started evaluating it against the 13th article of faith. "We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul-We belive all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things." With that criteria I would have to say that some of the lyrics in the music were not lovely or of good report. They at times used the Lord's name in vain and then there were some thematic elements that did not meet this criteria either. A lot of it was good, but there was much that was not. It put a different perspective on how I felt about the play and perhaps the movie as well. It is interesting when you start off with that article of faith in your mind. Perhaps I need to do this more frequently. It really made me start to think about the types of entertainment I listen to.
